We are grateful to be invited as one of the speakers for the Orientation of New Employers, Agencies, and Job Coaches. One of the highlights of the training was the “Morning Routine.” This is one of many powerful Person-Centered Thinking tools I used with the managers to show a different perspective on the many steps employees faces in their morning routine to prepare for work. Being creative and making this activity come to life is so rewarding when you hear, “I never thought of it that way! WOW!!” “Putting on Make-up and Pantyhoses may be a challenge”. from one of our male participants. This brings a whole new meaning to walking a mile in someone’s shoes. This is one tool on how to maximize the partnership between employers, job coaches, and employees – and that living with a disability or difference equals sameness in expectations in the workplace: equal pay, respect, and equity—what a delightful engagement with Prince Georges County Agencies and Employment Support Staff. Together with our CEO, Melissa Scales Hamilton, together with me is Mr. William R. Brownlee, CFJST, CFCC and we wrapped up with a quote, “I am open to all things good for the success of myself and others.” Here is to success for all that attended.
