About Melissa Scales Hamilton

Melissa Scales Hamilton, CEO of I am Special Consulting LLC has over 20 years of experience as an educator, she brings a passion for the education, support, and advocacy that enables individuals with multi-abilities to live successful independent lives. She launched I am Special Consulting (IAS) in 2014 and joined the Independent Living movement in 2015.

She is a certified Person-Centered Thinking Trainer with The Learning Community for Person-Centered Practices, a certified National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) helpline specialist, a certified meditation teacher, and a Commissioner for Individuals with Disabilities for Prince George’s County. She was awarded the Maryland Department of Disabilities Governor’s Citation for Direct Support Professional in 2020.
